INTRO TO LEATHER CRAFT at College of Marin, Indian Valley Campus

Saturday June 27 and Sunday June 28 from 1-4 PM

 

Curious about leather craft? In this hands-on introductory class, you’ll learn the foundational techniques of traditional leather work -cutting, stitching, finishing, and more, while creating your own handmade notebook cover. The finished piece is designed to hold a refillable 3.5” x 5.5” notebook, giving you a practical and beautiful item to take home.

The class includes an overview of different types of leather, essential tools, and material sourcing—everything you need to get started.

 
 

Some of the skills you will learn:

  • Saddle stitching

  • Decorative skip stitching

  • Hand stamping letters + numbers

  • And more

  • Cutting leather with an X-Acto knife

  • Burnishing leather edges

  • Creasing the edges

  • Gluing

  • Using French punching irons

Things you should know:

  • Wear comfortable clothes and make sure whatever you wear is not gonna to get in the way of what you’re doing.

  • Eat a good lunch before class coz crafting makes you hungry.

  • The campus layout is a little confusing so plan extra time to get there.

Location:

  • The class is at the Indian Valley Campus, 1800 Ignacio Blvd. in Novato.

  • Building 7, Room 101 (same building as the Campus Police) Campus map.

  • Parking lot #2 is the closest to Building 7.

  • There is no reception in that area but you can get on the college’s wifi -it should show up as an option on your phone.
